End of Deep Reading

Deep reading,” as opposed to “skimming” is the process of paying close, thoughtful attention to a text in a measured, almost meditative absorption of its content. Deep reading is also essential for embarking on a discovery of a literary compositions texture, cadences and stylistic devices. It is, in other words, an essential skill for becoming literate. Yet older students may now be at the risk of losing this acquired skill, while younger children may never be able to develop it in the first place. That’s hardly an insignificant development.
